These photos popped up in my memories this week… a These photos popped up in my memories this week… and I had to share them!

15 years ago, I was a Sales Manager for Janome UK, and these were taken in Florida at a Janome worldwide conference.

Long before The Embroidered Napkin Co existed, (I launched @extraspecialtouch in 2009 and @theembroiderednapkincompany in 2018) sewing and embroidery machines were already a huge part of my working life.

My background is actually very technical. I’ve worked with sewing and embroidery machines for years, trained people to use them, taught embroidery software, demonstrated machines and spent countless hours understanding what they can do and, probably more importantly, how to get them to do exactly what I want them to do. 😂

Before that, I studied costume for TV and theatre, pattern cutting, machine embroidery and millinery, and worked as a pattern cutter and design assistant too.

So when a bride or planner comes to us and says…

“I’ve got an idea, but I’m not sure if it can be embroidered…”

Those are often my favourite enquiries.

Because what you see on Instagram might be a beautiful napkin, a wedding crest, a venue illustration, a handwritten message or an embroidered piece of lace…

…but behind it are decades of sewing, embroidery, digitising, textiles and technical experience.

It’s also why we do so much of our work completely bespoke. We’re not limited to choosing a design from a catalogue and adding your initials.

Give me the slightly unusual idea.
The drawing.
The handwriting.
The venue.
The family crest.
The thing you’re not quite sure is possible.

Chances are, we’ll find a way to embroider it. 🪡

And, 15 years later, I still spend most of my working life surrounded by embroidery machines. Some things really don’t change, and I like love it this way!

Because sometimes initials are just the beginning… Because sometimes initials are just the beginning… 🪡

Over the years, we’ve embroidered some wonderfully unexpected things onto napkins.

The iconic door of The Sloane Club.
Pink bags for Kurt Geiger.
Brand logo for Shop My.
An incredibly detailed wedding crest.
Palais Daun-Kinsky in Vienna.
Manolo Blahnik shoes.
And, of course, some very important four-legged wedding guests. 🐾

If it means something to you, there’s a very good chance we can turn it into embroidery.

Wedding venues, crests, illustrations, pets, logos, favourite objects… we manually digitise artwork in our Nottingham studio, choosing every stitch and thread colour to translate the design into embroidery.

So when we say custom embroidered napkins, we really do mean custom.

Now I want to know - what would you have embroidered on yours?

The slightly frustrating side of Instagram when yo The slightly frustrating side of Instagram when you make things for weddings and events… sometimes we have SO much going on, and absolutely none of it can be shared!

We regularly work under NDAs for private weddings, events, brands and venues.

And when we say confidential, we mean confidential.

No names. No designs. No embroidery peeking out in the background. Sometimes not even a quick video of the machines running because it would give too much away.

When I get the magical email saying “you can share it now” … believe me, those are some of my favourite emails to receive.

So if our Instagram ever looks quieter than our studio really is… there’s usually a reason.

A table this good called for something a little di A table this good called for something a little different.

We embroidered each guest’s initials onto mini velvet ribbon bows, then tied them onto the glassware.

Place card, glass detail, keepsake - all in one tiny bow.

Personalised, but make it cool. ❤️❤️

From digitising the famous Sloane Club door, to watching it stitch out in gold thread… and finally seeing the finished napkins in their place at the table.

For this festive shoot at The Sloane Club in London, we embroidered their iconic front door onto rich burgundy napkins, finished with matching gold satin bows.

And THIS is why I love seeing the final tables. ❤️

Something that starts on a screen in our Nottingham studio ends up becoming part of a beautiful celebration in London.

Burgundy + gold + bows + bespoke embroidery = the perfect elevated festive place setting.

There’s always a little bit of fear when you’re ru There’s always a little bit of fear when you’re running your own business.

Fear that things might slow down.
Fear that you’ll make the wrong decision.
Fear that something you’ve worked so hard to build could disappear.

But I think that fear is also part of what keeps me going.

So I keep showing up.

Tying the bows.
Packing the orders.
Styling the tables.
Answering the emails.
Coming up with the next idea.
And doing the work, even on the days when nobody really sees it.

I started my business because I loved creating beautiful things, and all these years later, I still get such a buzz seeing something we’ve made sitting on a wedding or event table.

Maybe you never completely lose the fear.

Maybe you just learn to keep going anyway.

You should have heard the excitement in the studio You should have heard the excitement in the studio when my friend, who sells antiques, arrived with a bundle of antique French embroidery magazines and patterns.

Page after page of the most beautiful old monograms, decorative lettering and embroidery designs… obviously we immediately started imagining them stitched onto napkins and handkerchiefs.

There’s something I absolutely love about taking a design from the past and giving it a new life, especially when it can become part of someone’s wedding or a piece they’ll keep for years.

So… watch this space. 👀

We’re going to be recreating some of our favourites for a new collection of embroidered napkins and handkerchiefs.

I think we may have found our latest studio obsession. 🪡
